Hey there! I'm Katie, a proud North Carolina native and Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). My journey in the world of veterinary medicine has been nothing short of amazing, driven by my deep love for our furry companions. Starting off in the field, I earned my Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S) in Veterinary Medical Technology from Central Carolina Community College – the first step in a career dedicated to caring for and advocating for animals. Shortly after, I successfully passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and my state boards. Post-graduation, I was accepted into a fantastic 1-year rotating nursing internship. Picture this: working across a range of specialized fields, from surgery and neurology to oncology, internal medicine, dental and oral surgery, feline-only practice, large animal care, ophthalmology, and cardiology. Each rotation was like adding puzzle pieces to my foundation, giving me a rich understanding of various aspects of veterinary medicine. Since my internship days in 2018, I've honed in on emergency and critical care medicine. It's a field that not only captures my interest but propels me to constantly seek knowledge and expertise. Beyond the day-to-day hustle, I'm a strong advocate for recognizing the crucial role veterinary technicians play in animal healthcare. I'm passionate about topics like credentialing and expanding the scope of practice for veterinary technicians – all to ensure our profession keeps growing and reaching new heights. Plus, I enjoy sharing my insights through writing and public speaking, creating educational content for both fellow technicians and pet parents. Whether I'm in the operating room or at the advocacy table, my mission is clear: contribute to a healthier, happier life for veterinary technicians and our animal pals.
